Cross Reference Links broken
upchuck 11/26/2008 7:31:01 PM
I have a document where I placed captions under my illustrations. I would
then reference those illustrations throughout the document. I have come back
after a few weeks to re-visit this document and now when I use " insert>
reference> cross-reference" they are missing from my "reference type: figure"

How can I fix?

Which version of Word is this? Especially note that if you add captions to
wrapped objects the captions will be placed in text boxes, which Word 2003
and older versions cannot see for the purpose of creating cross-references
and table of figures.

I am using Word 2003. They aren't in text boxes and are not wrapped. If you
like I can send you a sample to look at

SOLUTION

I determined what the cause was and was able to fix it. The problem occured
because I had an operating system upgrade and therefor had MS Office 2003
re-installed. So any customizations that I made to Word where therefor gone.

The customization was in my captions. I added a new label called
"Illustration" once I placed it back in and updated my fields (Ctrl+all and
F9) Everything was back into place.

Indeed, labels are stored in the Normal template (not in the current
document template, which would make more sense).
