Saving or working directly with any form of removable media is dicing with losing documents through corruption. Always work to/from the local HDD and then copy or burn to the removable media. There are many posts in these newsgroup of users who have learnt this the hard way. In the case of CDs or CD/RWs, the action of writing to them always assigns the Read Only attribute (nothing to do with Word).
