Converted TOC Problem
DCTech 12/18/2008 7:26:13 PM
I just converted a medium size (45pp) document from Word 2003 to Word 2007
and added a significant amount of text taken from 30 other documents (total
135 pp). Because much of it was taken from other documents, styles were not
used consistently. I tried to update the exisiting TOC, which I built in
2003 in the original document (and which worked properly in 2003), but the
2007 TOC tool did not recognize the 2003 field codes. It identified some
outlined items in the new text but for all intents and purposes, all of my
old work is gone. What is the fastest way for me to strip out all existing
TOC logic and create a new TOC from scratch? I do not want to change the
formatting of my document.

I think this might be the fastest: Apply paragraph outline levels to the
heading styles that you want to appear in the TOC. Then use the usual "\o 1-
3" in your TOC field to generate the TOC.

Can you send us the field codes for the TOC that is not working? (Right
click on the TOC. Select Toggle the field codes.Copy the info between the
braces.) We might be able to help you figure out what is not working.
