Default Workbook

I've set up a default workbook according to the Help feature and what
I've read here. As a result my new workbook opens when I start Excel,
when I insert a new worksheet and when I type cntrl N, however when I
click the 'new' button the only option available from the task pane is
'blank workbook' and this one is back in the original format. This
would be confusing for users if I release this. On checking the help
it definitely says clicking the new workbook button should open this
template, so I think what I am trying to do is not have the task pane
open when we click that button. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Do not use the File>New...Command. Note the ellipsis which denotes more
options.

Use the File>New(no ellipsis) which can be found at Tools>Customize>File and
dragged to your File Menu.

CTRL + n should open your default workbook template if you have it stored in
your XLSTART folder.

Also the "New" Icon on the Standard Toolbar should open your default template.
