Synchronizing tasks and appointments
Slimpickens 6/14/2007 1:43:01 AM
I run a small wireless network at home. I have Outlook 2007 BCM on my
desktop and also on my laptop. My contact information synchs OK but none of
my tasks or appointments are synching. I need to take this info when I
travel. What do I have to do synch that info from my desktop to laptop and
laptop to desktop?? Appreciate anyone's help.

Here's the deal, the BCM data (contacts) is being synced but not the
Outlook data (tasks or appointments).

Each Outlook, the one and the desktop and the one on the laptop, has
its own separate database (a .PST file).

Typically, the Outlook data is synchronized by a server like Exchange,
but if your Outlook is not connected to Exchange (e.g. gets email from
a POP3 server) there's no default mechanism to synchronize your
Outlook tasks and appointments.

I suspect there are other ways to sync Outlook besides Exchange. I
keep hearing about web services that are supposed to sync Outlook, but
haven't used any.

Perhaps someone else has some suggestions about how to sync Outlook
data. Perhaps there's a way to have the desktop and laptop share the
PST files automatically, short of manually moving the file between
machines.

Thanks Luther.
I know I can put my desktop .pst files in Windows Briefcase on my laptop and
work out of it from there. Unfortunately when I synch back to my desktop the
emails will get screwed up on my desktop. Is there a file somewhere that
holds only the tasks and appointments??
I may be going back to ACT.

Outlook puts all its data in the single PST file.
