HATE ACT....want to change...should I?
Claudia 10/29/2008 9:49:03 PM
We currently have ACT 2008 and it has had SOOOOO many problems that we are
considering converting over to the Business Contact Manager that is a part of
Office Professional 2007. I have some questions that maybe someone could
answer for me: 1) Will BCM convert an ACT 2008 database? 2) My partner and I
share one database/calender, etc. thru our small office network; will we be
able to share one database/calendar with BCM? 3) If we can share one
database/calendar where would I find the instructions on how to create the
sharing? 4)We also have an old Goldmine database, will BCM convert that
database for use as well? Thanks so much for any help anyone may offer.

(1) Probably, although it depends on the state of your ACT database.
BCM asks ACT for the data, and there have been several reports of ACT
stopping when it encounters a "bad" record.

(2) You can share the BCM database of contacts, but BCM doesn't have a
calendar. It links to the Outlook calendar, so you'll have to look
elesewhere to share calendars. Exchange is popular.

(4) BCM doesn't import from Goldmine, but I understand that you can
export your Goldmine contacts to CSV files and import those into BCM.
