BCM 2007 & Active Synch Warning
Bob Heiney 4/5/2007 1:42:01 PM
Well, here we go again. Another pain in the butt from the boneheads at
Microsoft.

I am synching to my Cingular 8125/Windows Mobile 5.0 from BCM 2007 (we
should rename this BM 2007 as in bowel movement). In the course of synching,
both sides stop. Then Active Synch disconnects. So I may get 150 business
contacts into the phone before the system halts.

From there, when I try to synch again, the application takes my synched
contacts from the phone and adds them back into BCM 2007. Now I have
duplicates. I'm so glad I have plenty of free hours to 'save time' and manage
my contacts via computer!

I have had some synch problems too, but not the same as yours. I synched 175+
contacts and 7 accounts without a problem from a Vista PC running BCM2007.
However, Edits to an existing BCM contact in Outlook on the PC do not flow
through to the WM5 device (cingular 8125). Adds and deletes do flow through
to WM5. I'm using a USB connection, not bluetooth. Edits made on the WM5
device flow back to Outlook/BCM on the PC beautfully. I'm using the latest
"Beta" BCMV3PPC.exe V1.0 for PocketPC software from the MS download site. I'm
surprised this is still called Beta there and am wondering if they have
released a final version with these problems fixed. Have you heard anything
about a new release of this?

Hi Sam,

No I have not. However, I followed the advice of another user in this
Discussion Group and purchased Chapura's (www.chapura.com) synch product.
That worked without any issues. I really don't understand why that one should
work any different than MS active synch.

One thing though- and this is real cool- it combines both folders (Outlook &
BCM) to create one unified look up on my Cingular 8125.

Thank you for the tip on the Beta issue for Pocket PC. I wish I had known
before I purchased the Chapura product!.

Bob,
Thanks for the quick reply. I just discovered on the MS BCM team Blog (
http://blogs.msdn.com/bcm/default.aspx ) that they are working on a final
release of BCM for WM5. One Question: Does Chaupur's product work with Vista
on the PC, or just XP? Which are you using?

Thanks.

Sam,

Chapura's Pocket Mirror Professional for WM is indeed Windows Vista
compatible. For many years now I have found Chapura to be always proactively
ahead of the curve with the quality and reliability of their sync solutions.
The Pocket Mirror Professional for WM puts multiple folder contacts all into
only 1 place on the handheld device where you can then utilize the contact
with full look-up, dialing, & caller ID functionality. Also, with BCM
version 3, the Project Tasks are separate data items from the native Outlook
Task items. This BCM folder (Project Tasks) will also be synced and the
Project Tasks on your handheld are then identified as such.

MS should buy Chapura so that they could actually learn how to do
syncronization correctly. The MS BCM sync application "may" be released
"soon" but "soon" never seems to arrive very timely and when it does there
always seems to be bugs or problems. I just can't say enough for how
consistently reliable Chapura is. If you ever do have any problems, their CS
is legendary.

Sounds great. Couple of questions:

1. If I am using Chapura, can I still synch the non-BCM outlook data over
the air with Exchange Direct Push EAS, while doing the Chapura/BCM synch over
bluetooth ot USB?

2. Does Chapura work with BCM 2007 on Vista Business? Vista uses the "Mobile
Device Center" rather than Active Synch. Do I have to install Active Synch on
Vista?

Thanks
