Thread: using OneNote 2007 with different profiles

using OneNote 2007 with different profiles
Peter Sanden <psanden[ at ]cityweb.de> 5/18/2007 8:09:22 AM
I am using several profiles on my computer (private, work,
administrator) but I want to be able to access OneNote data from any
of these profiles. I just thought I might change the storage location
in the options section appropriately (using a shared storage location
for each profile) but apparently this doesn't seem to work. Maybe I
should add I am using Windows XP Home and the shared drive is NTFS
formatted. Especially the 'unclassified notes' seem to cause problems
(can't add or change unclassified notes in some of these profiles -
apparently write-protected). I suppose it might be something to do
with the cache file but I am not sure. I would be grateful for any
help. Thanks!

It likely is an issue with the NTFS permissions.

In general, if your user account can read/write to a directory (and all
contents in the subfolders, etc.) and you open that directory as a Notebook
in OneNote under all of the profiles in question, ON should be able to
handle it.

Thanks Erik,

I seem to have tracked down the problem so as to be able to give some
more concrete information. It appears to be the case that my
'OneNote\Unclassified Notes' folder (sorry, don't know the exact
designation since I'm using the German version of OneNote) is
write-protected for all profiles except when I log in as administrator
- notwithstanding the fact that I have cleared the write-protect flag
in the Windows Explorer. May it be something do with anything going
wrong when converting from an earlier version to OneNote 2007? I
remember there appeared a message regarding write-protection when I
converted my OneNote 2003 notebooks to 2007.
