Well, I think it's fixed. I put my computer to sleep this evening before leaving for home. It appears to have frozen somewhere during the going to sleep cycle, with the battery running out on the way home in this frozen state. When I pressed the power button, the system started. When I opened OneNote, I was able to open all of the attachments that I tried, even though they were not on the hard drive. Odd.
