Grouping images - Feature Request
ShaneUK20 4/13/2007 10:48:01 AM
hoHi

I create loads of quick reminders/instruction guides on how to use software.
This involves lots of screen clips which I then doctor to highlight the
correct button to press or menu to choose.

There are drawing tools that I can use in OneNote but they are anchored
separately from the screen shot. If you change the text before the clipping,
the clip moves but the highlight stays in position relative to the page and
not the text.

To overcome this I paste the clip into MS Paint and add my arrows, boxes
etc. before putting it back into OneNote.

Is there a way to Group the two images together, or to anchor a drawing to
the text?

If not can we have it in the next version please.

Many thanks

Shane

If you are doing that level of screen shot annotations, check out SnagIt
from Techsmith (www.techsmith.com). You will find the screen shot abilities
much more robust and the annotation abilities very impressive. (I am not
related to the company... Merely an avid user of their products for many
years.)

If you want to keep using the OneNote screen clipping and drawing tools for
your guides, then I recommend you try the following:
1) Select the picture and the annotations
2) Copy them
3) Open PPT.
4) Paste special as a bit mapped object or as a picture
5) Copy the picture again
6) Swap back to OneNote
7) Delete the old set
8) Paste the new set

(Not as much work to do as it is to type.... :) )

Hi Kathy

Thanks for the reply as it confirms that OneNote cannot do what I want.
I'll have a look at Snagit, thanks.

Is there any chance that future versions of OneNote will either:
1) Allow my to group images
2) Or choose what type of anchor an image uses

Thanks

NO.

A popular request. The lowly Windows Journal has it. So does
Scribbler, TwoNote and Magellan Writer.

Was this ever answered? anywhere? e.g. why it not there, or if there a
powertoy that can be used to fix the omission?

It's one of the top requests.
If you want to have a closer look, just visit "Connect", the place for
submitting
suggestions and bug reports to the developers team:
http://connect.microsoft.com/onenote/

You may comment exiting requests or make a new one.
If the latter, when done, pls drop a note with the URL in here so that
we can jump in and vote for your suggestion

It's been heavily discussed during the Beta. But obviously the
developers were unable to implement this urgently needed feature
{siiiigh}.

There is nothing in so far as of yet.
I don't enough about the limits of PowerToys but me seems that grouping
(anchoring) objects in OneNote would need deep changes to the data
structures.
As I'm suffering from the lack of the most needed functionality, I
would seriously hope we get grouping as soon as possible but I simply
think that we will have to wait for the next version (Office 14).
