The SideNote interface is the same as the Full Page view interface, with the difference being that it is maximized by default.
You can turn any page (even those pages not in Unfiled Notes) into a SideNote interface by navigating to that page, then pressing F11, and then double-clicking the Title Bar or clicking the Restore Down button.
As an alternative, the rest of the Notebook layout is still present in SideNote view, if not visible. You can use the KB shortcuts (Ctrl-PgUp and Ctrl-PgDn in this case) to switch to a previously created Side Note. The downside is that each time you do this, it creates a new page in the UFN Section which must be deleted, etc.
