Activation of Home and Student Trial
Bill 3/4/2007 5:39:10 PM
OK, this is REALLY frustrating!!! I downloaded the H&S 2007 trial and am
ready to activate it. So, I bought a retail version of the product. When I
use the activation feature, it claims the product key is invalid!!

When I checked with "help", it said that the Activation Wizard will provide
a telephone option -- but there is no such option! I can't continue on the
activation screen without a valid key, and this stupid thing keeps claiming
my key is invalid.

It would help a LOT if the MS "help" would at least provide a website where
you could track down the telephone number needed.

Now what? I'm not going to purchase ANOTHER version, on-line, when I
already have the retail DVD. Isn't there some way to activate this version?
Or, do I have to install the DVD version over the trial version? Or, do I
have to uninstall the trial version, and install the DVD version -- and if I
do that, will I keep all the work I've done?

P.S. This was supposed to be simple!! Why does MS have to make everything
much harder than it needs to be?

Yes, uninstall the trial version and then install the retail version.
Uninstalling the trail version will not remove your data files. However, if
you have some critical data files, you should back them up just protect
yourself.

I only had to install the new license codes when I upgraded from the H/S trial
to the licensed product. But I did have a dickens of a time installing the trial
as I had to uninstall all of the beta and found that I had to also uninstall the
save as pdf addin which wasn't intuitive.

The OP stated that he purchased a retail copy of Office 2007 vice purchasing
the product code for the trail version. That he is trying to install the
retail version is why I suggested he uninstall the trail.

That is how I did it - I installed the trial and then purchased the retail from
amazon and just installed the license code without doing a new install and it
just worked.
