1. Journal is more a record of events (hours spent - using the timer or manually entered). OneNote is a free format notebook - it replaces all of your post-it notes, scraps of paper, work books, jottings etc. Or more formally it can be used more formally to minute projects or peform research etc. And it is all very easily searchable and taggable (?).
2. I assume you are using OneNote 2007 and Office 2007. The answer is Yes.
3. Your mobile may support synching with Outlook Calendar and OneNote. Let us know the make/model.
