Error viewing account in BCM in Outlook 2003
MS 2/14/2007 8:10:00 PM
I have a list of accounts in BCM that worked well till I recently installed
Visual Studio and SQL Server 2005 and now I'm getting errors in BCM. When I
double click an account or an opportunity, it opens up and I can view it, but
then an error window comes up

"Microsoft Office Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We
are sorry for the inconvenience."

I click "Don't send", and another window opens with the same message.
There's also a debug button in that window, which if clicked, tries to open a
Just-in-time debugger, which it can't find and gives another message saying
can't find Visual Studio debugger. Clicking on "Don't Send" closes and
reopens Outlook 2003.

Also, with this error window, I'm able to view and modify my accounts and
opportunities and save changes to them. The error is simply annoying. My
contacts in BCM work fine without any errors.

I've since unistalled Visual Studio, but not unistalled SQL Server 2005.
What could be the problem? Please advise

Can you try repairing .Net Frame Work 2.0 from add /remove programs. If this
does not work try remove and reinstall the same and see if it works

Thanks. I tried repairing, but it still doesn't work after repairing the .NET
Framework 2.0
Now before I uninstall .NET framework 2.0 from my computer, i need to make
sure I can re-install it. The one on my pc is around 93.5 MB, and the one
available for download on the microsoft site is "Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86)" and is 22.9 MB. I don't know the
difference between the two. Where can I find the right one to download?
Thanks again

Perhaps the one on your PC is uncompressed and the download is
compressed?

You're right. The download was compressed.
Now I uninstalled .NET Framework 2.0, and re-installed it, but
unfortunately, the problem still remains. I still get the same error when I
double click on an account or opportunity in BCM. Your thoughts have been
encouraging, but I'm still stuck. Any other ideas?
Thanks!

Thanks for reporting this. We will investigate.

In the mean time, you might try this work around:
First, go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall Microsoft Outlook 2003 with
Business Contact Manager Update.
Next, uninstall Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MICROSOFTSMLBIZ)
Finally, reboot your PC and install BCM Update from:

Looks like this might be fixed in a more recent build of SQL Express. Try
patching your Visual Studio installation of SQL Express with Service Pack 1.

Also, make sure you have the latest updates for Visual Studio. Visual
Studio 2005 Service Pack 1
