I am on day 3 of a 60 day trial for Office 2007 (standard). I created the document in 2003 on a different computer, saved it to a flash drive, then put it on the new computer with 2007. It will open the document but not allow me to do anything with it. It says that the selection is locked. How do i undo this, and keep it from happening again with a new document? thanks

ginny1956, 1. Right click the Word 2003 file that you transferred to PC that is using Office 2007. Make sure that the under Properties, that the "Read-Only" Attribute for the file is uncheck.
You should also make a habit, while you are using the Trial version of Office 2007, to save a copy of anything that you create using Office 2007 program, in the Word 97-2003 format also. Just in case you do not purchase the 2007 version. You will be able to use these files that you created, on PC's that use an earlier version of MS Word.

No need. You can download and install the Office Compatibility pack....

Gordon, The following statement: "You will be able to use these files that you created, on PC's that use an earlier version of MS Word."
Should have been written as:
"You, and anyone that you share these files with, will be able to use these files that you created, on PC's that use an earlier version of MS Word that do not have Office Compatibility Pack installed. Or use a compatible third-party word processor program that can open and edit Word documents, which the Office Compatibility Pack can not be installed on."
