Outlook 2003 with BCM had become very slow - to the point at which it was taking five minutes to launch. I've been using it since 2003 and had initially linked messages going back into early 2002.
So, I figured I'd give OLBCM2007 a whirl. I'm really happy with the new product, but had almost the same start up time at first. Once I got it up and running, I could see the "Communications" folder, which either wasn't available or was corrupt in the previous install. To my surprise, I found about 25 THOUSAND items in there. I backed it up and tried deleting the files, except for the last three months to match my PST file settings, but the process corrupted the file. Back to square one.
I ended up deleting the files slowly, in batches of 250 or so items. With each delete, I cleared the delete items. After hours of this, I finally got a what I thought would be a functional database file. Wrong. When I tried to compact it, I ended up with a corrupt file once again. Fortunately I was able to export this slimmed down version of my data. I then created a new BCM database and imported the information from the backup. Outlook 2007 now appears to be running reasonably fast and I have access to only the data I need. Because I send and receive a lot of attachments, I have auto archive set to run every three days.
Is there any way to auto archive the BCM information at the same time as the auto-archive? I'm hesitant to apply auto-archive settings to folders in the BCM tree.

R.E., I have noted your feature request (archive BCM items, perhaps together with Outlook) and will be sure the feature team considers it. Thanks for your input, Chris

R.E.:
The same thing happened to me and what I found out was this: you've probably got a record of yourself in BCM (with your email address) and EVERY incoming and outgoing email is getting linked to Communication History. I started thinking that I could search Outlook whenever I needed to find an email -- why link emails to every contact. So, I went through Email Auto Linking and only turned on business contacts that I wanted to have history updated for whenever I exchanged email with them, and I turned OFF my own record.
Anyone coming from ACT! will have their My Record automatically show up in the BCM database and it turns on Auto Linking by default. Check that and see...
Another tip: When deleting records, use SHIFT + DELETE and they won't be put in Deleted Records, saving you the time of having to delete them twice...
