Two more things. I have seen the BCM 'enable window' go by early on but declined as I didn't have the data files in place.
When getting to the install window on: OfficeSBMESP4-KB930954-FullFile-ENU.EXE (Service pack 4 for BCM 2003 and vista)
It fails immediately and doesn't write the log. So I'm guessing the installer failed to get permission to write even if the extractor did create temp files. I don't know how to cure this and nothing in KB on it.
But 1 then 2 don't make sense. And, like I said, the services 'are' running.
Thanks, Dan.
