Outlook 2007 closes with error to Business Contact Manager
Anne 2/12/2007 5:23:01 PM
I installed Office 2007 yesterday and today, Outlook kept closing and
re-opening with the same error message that BCM had a problem and will close.
After closing and reopening several time, with the error message on the
screen I created a new BCM file and I am now able to kep Outlook open.
Now, how do I get my Business contact manager data back? I have backups, but
no exports.

If you had an existing database , try this

Go to Business Contact Manager Menu ->Create or Select a database->
Select Existing database and check if you see your old database in the
dropdown list, If you see it , select it .

If you don't see the old database,

Go to Business Contact Manager Menu -> Database Tools -> Restore Database
and use your backup to restore the database.

From the "Business Contact Manager" menu, select "Database Tools | Create or
Select a Database..."

If you'd like to restore from a backup, create a blank database or backup
your current database, then select "Business Contact Manager | Database
Tools | Manage Database..." Use the "Restore Database..." button to restore
your database.

I realized that BCM was not installed because it is on Disk2. I installed it.
Now I get the message: BCM encountered a critical error during startup and
will be removed from your profile.
Frustrating! But I need the data. I guess I will be re-installing Outlook
2003?

Try re-adding BCM to your existing Outlook profile or create a new Outlook
profile from "Start | Control Panel | Mail | Show Profiles..." It could be
possible that your existing Outlook profile had a reference to the old
version of BCM.

The problem is, that in the setup for BCM it bombs and never created the
profile. I did check and there is no BCM profile in Mail.
I even uninstalled both Outlook and BCM and used a file backup for outlook
just in case, but I can't the the setup for BCM to complete. I keep getting
the same error message from before.

The issue has not been resolved. BCM closes with an error message at the
start of creating a profile. Microsoft advanced support dialed my computer
and finally gave up. They are putting this to unresolved issues. It seems to
have something to do with SQL server.
