I'm hoping that someone can offer a suggestion on this.
I'm in English Canada and I'd like to have MS Word recognize English Canadian spellings.
I have my Vista Languages set to English Canada, and I have the Office 2007 Language setting set to English Canada, but no matter what I do, English spellings are flagged as spelling mistakes. When I check the language setting for a given document they are always US English. When I manually change the language for the document to English Canadian, and click set as default, I get a warning that the default will change for all documents based on the normal template - That will work fine for that document, but the next time I open a new document the default language will be back to US English.
Now I have nothing against the spelling preference of my neighbors to the south (and personally prefer many of those spellings particular to US English) but I have to work where I work, and my compatriots would like to see things spelled the way that they're accustomed too).
Any suggestions on how to resolve this? Thanks.

It means that the template you are using to create the documents is set to English US or the documents were created somewhere else in English US.
What you need to do is to open the document, use Ctrl+A (to SelectAll) and then use Set Language (on the Review Ribbon) to set it to English (Can) but make sure that the two check boxes at the bottom of the dialog are clear, then press DEFAULT. That should save the change to the global template and resolve the problem.

Hi Terry:
Thanks for your note.
That's exactly what I've been doing. I'm working in the normal default template and I'm selecting all the text then setting the default language to English Canada (and I don't have any of the other boxes checked). Still doesn't work. Every time I open a new document, the default is back to - not really sure what it is, I guess English US- in any case, Canadian spellings are flagged as spelled incorrectly.
Just thinking......
Of course, I have English (United States) added to my list of acceptable languages (along with French (Canada) ) as I work in all three, Maybe having the US spellings in the list is what causes the settings problem?
