Missing label template - troubleshooting (Word 2007)
elayne 11/17/2008 5:09:02 PM
I have an English (U.S. standard) user whose Label Vendor defaults to Avery
A4/A5 in Word 2007. When she chooses Avery US and tries to find the Avery
label number 5160, there is no such number. The number does exist however in
Avery A4/A5, but it is the wrong number of labels across. Mine is not set up
like hers.

I looked to see if there’s a European setting for Word, but couldn’t find
one, even though it really doesn’t make sense that this would be the root. It
almost sounds as though she needs to have her label templates reinstalled.
But I’m not sure how they would become corrupt.

Do you have recommendations for troubleshooting this issue?

Just a couple of possibilities:

There are two sets of Label vendor lists - one if you select Continuous-feed
printers, and one if you select Page printers. In my copy of Word (installed
with UK settings, in essence). Your user may be looking at the
Continuous-feed lists rather than the Page printers list

(
5160
is in Page printers, Avery US Letter
is not in Continuous-feed, Avery US Letter
is not in Continuous-feed, Avery A4/A5
is in Page printers, Avery A4/A5
)
which could be confusing!

Also, the sequence of the label IDs is "alphabetic" rather than "numeric",
so, e.g. 11101 appears before 5160 in the list. To find 5160 in the Page
printers, Avery US Letter list your user would need to look a few labels
beyond 44323

Oh my heavens, Peter! I sent your comments word for word to the user and it
completely resolved her problem. You are my hero! Thank you so much for the
very quick response!

Best wishes!
