power point auto open
mrc 12/22/2008 12:42:00 AM
Previously, when someone sent a ppt/pps presentation via e-mail, all I had to
do was click on the attachment and view. I must have changed something
somewhere because now it opens to Word and not viewable. What can I do to
restore the correct auto open feature?

-Is Power Point still installed?
-Have you tried saving the file and then opening it with Power Point?
-Are you opening the emails in Outlook or does this occur when you open
emails from your other accounts like yahoo or gmail?

The lap top is new with power point pre-installed. I can open ppt after I
save it to a file. The problem recurs when I use my G Mail account. My
problem is not insurmountable but annoying because of the extra step. I lost
my auto open when I was trying to convert a ppt file to Word. I just don't
have any idea what I changed. If you have any ideas I would be grateful.
Thank you

Hi,

I understand it can be frustrating. Does this problem persist when you try
to open a PPT file from any of your other accounts eg: Outlook or Yahoo or
Hotmail?

I just want to make sure I am trying to troubleshoot in the right direction.

Regards!

Thank you. I appreciate your concern and questions. The problem persists
whether I use my hotmail account or my G mail account. Any ideas would be
appreciated.

Have you tried the following steps.
1) Download a PPT file from Hotmail/Gmail and save it in a specified folder
2) Goto the folder -> Right Click -> Choose Programs -> Check the box at the
bottom which says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"
-> Select Microsoft Office Power Point -> Ok

Regards,
Vinay.

Yes, presently, the steps you outlined is the only way I can open a ppt file.
I lost my auto open when I was attempting to convert a ppt file to word. I
must have changed something but I don't know what it was.
