Display of Linked files

Is there a way to change the display of linked files, other than an an
icon with some of the file name visible below?

I'd like to create outlines with links to saved files, with the links
being text, like a hperlink to open the file. Is there another way to
do this?

NO.

Your ideas are good though.
OneNote's usefulness is limited by a poor integration with the Windows
File System.

My suggestion would be to put all your files in one directory (with
subdirectories) and just link to the Appropriate subdirectory.

If you want to replicate this ever important directory you should try
Foldershare.com to synch your PCs. It would also serve as a backup
solution.

Good luck.
