word quyestions
Wendy Elizabeth 6/29/2007 2:58:02 AM
I would like to be able to run office 2000 and office 2007 on my home pc. I
want my office files that are in office 2000 to stay the way they are for 3
more months due to having wedding plans in office 2000. I do not want those
office 2000 files to be changed for 3 months.

If I put office 2007 on the home pc, will all the files be converted to
office 2007?
I am asking that questions since I just attended an msdn event today and won
a free version of office 2007.

Thanks!

When you open Office 2000 files in Office 2007, it opens them in
Compatibility Mode. It will not automatically convert them. It converts only
if you explicitly choose the Convert option, or if you use Save As to the
new format.

Furthermore, you can set each Office 2007 application that has a new format
to default to the Office 97-2003 formats. So, you can continue working with
and defaulting to the earlier format for as long as you want... forever, if
you prefer.

Congratulations on winning Office 2007!

I hope this helps...

Cheers,

When you install Office 2007, ensure that it does not upgrade your
installation. The installation routine offers the choice. FWIW I would
change the Office 2000 installation to uninstall Outlook 2000 , so that the
far superior Outlook 2007 will install. You cannot have 2 versions of
Outlook on your PC.

This should automatically import your Outlook settings and data.

I would also uninstall all the other Office 2000 applications except for
Word (but you can do that later if you want).

As Herb has indicated, this will not affect your data in any of the Office
applications.

If you are running both Word 2000 and Word 2007 on the same operating system
(or profile) every time you start one or the other, the installation
routine will run to reconfigure the registry. It is possible to set a
registry key to block the Windows Installer kicking in. You'll want to only
do this after confirming that double-clicking on a document file from the
Windows Desktop opens in the version Word that you would like to be the
default version for editing Word documents (i.e. the last one version you
opened). It will still be possible to open the document in either version
of Microsoft Word via File > Open.

The registry modification is ...

Use the NoRereg key for whichever version you don't want to register - here
Word 2000

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word\Options

Add a DWORD named NoRereg set to 1
