I use Windows Explorer to organize my files within My Documents. Now I use OneNote to organize all of my notes, web clippings, emails, etc. For the most part, my file folders in My Documents correspond with the notebooks I use in OneNote. For example, I have a School folder within My Documents, and I have a notebook entitled School. The challenge, of course, is to keep all information associated with a particular topic, together.
I would like to be able to associate a folder of Word/PDF/Excel, etc., files with a specific notebook in OneNote. The folder of documents could appear in a navigation box within OneNote so I could have fast access to all associated non-OneNote documents (and be able to rename and delete them as necessary). Actually, it would be nice if I could associate one Outlook folder with each OneNote notebook as well.
Due to the number of files I already have in each folder, I am not going to spend the time to go back and embed each file within a OneNote page. And I don't even want to because the link is lost if I change the file name. Really, if OneNote could include within-screen access to associated document file folders and email folders, it would be the PERFECT product! You should do this as soon as possible.

I've suggested this many many times since OneNote version 1.
"Really, if OneNote could include within-screen access to associated document file folders and email folders, it would be the PERFECT product! You should do this as soon as possible. "
I have suggested this exact feature. I also suggested this would also help microsoft lock users into Windows File Systems... etc. I also suggested that Online "Google-like" OneNote-analogs would have problems with this needed integration and would be another way to show that the desktop reigns supreme.
I wonder if some powertoy could auto populate links from a specified directory.
Your other problem is that you are probably overextending OneNote's capabilities and robustness. If you know what file you are looking for ... then just make a hyperlink to the Folder that contains the files .... in the end, I think that aint that much better than what you hoping to achieve.
If you are only hoping to very quickly open up files ... I might suggest avoid OneNote and try this very cool very flexible rather darn robust tool called ...

You can get it to index any directory you want. I think by default it will index your Start Menu, I didn't want that so I edited the script to fit my needs. Very cool.
