cannot write to shared notebook
Peter Sanden <psanden[ at ]cityweb.de> 6/29/2007 5:12:42 PM
When I open a shared notebook, I am able to read it but no input is
accepted. 'New page' is also disabled. I can copy files to the shared
folder so I seem to have write access. I then copied the shared
notebook to my local computer, renamed it and copied it back again
under the new name to its original location. After opening the renamed
shared notebook, everything worked fine - I could edit pages, add new
pages and so on. I have no idea what's the reason for this behaviour.
Has anyone got any idea? Thanks!

File permissions. You didn't have write permissions on the folder and
files in the shared folder. Permissions stay with files & folder moved
on the same volume (same hard drive basically), but don't go with them
if you move between volumes. When you moved the items to your computer,
they inherited the permissions of the folder you moved them into. When
you moved them back, they inherited the permissions of the folder you
moved them into.
You could achieve the same thing, if you reset inheritance on the
original folder, via Properties, Security, Advanced.

What operating system are you using (Vista, XP or Win2K3) and where is the
notebook stored (sharepoint, UNC, somewhere else)?
