Can I use Outlook effectively as a CRM system?

I was hoping to avoid purchasing Gold Mine or ACT by using Outlook as my CRM.
Can that be done well, or is it just wishful thinking?

Doyle,

My answer is definitely a "YES." However, you may or may not find the BCM
add-in to Outlook to be your best CRM option. There are numerous other
alternatives to consider:

www.avidian.com
www.teamscope.com
www.mxcontact.com

In addition, there is the full featured MS CRM Dynamics applications from
Microsoft that will keep you from a lot of frustration with BCM. BCM is a
very basic contact manager with several ill-thought out limitations that are
built into its design.

Very Much a NO. It is a very immature product goaing as far as not offering
features we've had for 15 years and even diabling active features that are in
Outlook but not available in BCM. The SQL is unstable and slows production
machines. But be yond stability it CANNOT do any of the things a CRM does.
It is a good email package, but as a Microsoft employee told me. "you have
letters, Oh no we don't support writing letters just email". They are not in
the real world.
