Hi all,
I recently had my hard drive re-imaged and am now encountering difficulties re-installing my Office 2000. The installation begins well enough but part way throguh I get this message: "Windows files must be installed for your installation to proceed. Insert your Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 CD now."
The problem is I don't have any XP CD's - I wasn't given them when I bought the computer.
When I click on MORE INFORMATION I get this: "Possible reasons for this problem: - You have inserted the wrong CD (i.e., a different Windows product than the version installed) - The CD-ROM drive in your system is not functioning."
I have successfully installed my copy of Office 2000 on my PC in the past (pre-reimage) without incident.
My system information indicates that I am running Windows XP Home Edition 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong or if there was something done incorrectly with the reimage.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Michael

What exactly do you mean by re-imaged?

There was a nasty virus that had badly infected my HD. Re-imaging completely wipes the hard drive clean. The operating system (XP) was then re-installed. This basically reset the computer back to the state it was in when I bought it. In other words, nothing that I had put on the computer was there after the re-imaging - programs, files, pictures, etc.

Are you actually installing Office or trying to copy it over from some sort of backup?

What you are doing wrong is trying to install Office 2000 on a re-imaged system and the system is not installed correctly or the image of your system was not complete and missing files that are needed.
My experience with imaging any OS is not great since it always does not do the whole image of the system
