Unable to connect

We have a small office with two laptops running Business Contact Manager
2007. My laptop is set as the 'server', and our other staff member has his
BCM set to share the database. Approximately 50% of the time he attempts to
connect to the shared database (switching from Offline to Online in his BCM),
he sees an error:

Business Contact Manager is unable to connect to the shared database

We have thoroughly investigated network connectivity and can find no issues
that would cause this. Ping shows the computers can see each other on the
network ok. He has full administrator access to my computer. Using the OSQL
tool from the command prompt, we can go in manually on his computer and
connect to the shared database on my computer with no problem. Even though
there is no noticeable reason why BCM should not be connecting, it will
produce the 'unable to connect' error quite frequently.

We looked at the MSSQL error log on his computer, and we find the following
entry whenever the BCM connectivity error occurs:

Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 16.
Logon Login failed for user '<user name>'.

Can someone from Microsoft or others with SQL knowledge please instruct us
how to resolve this issue with BCM. Thank you.

Hi,
This seems like intermittent sql login failure. Can you confirm that it
never happens through OSQL command?

There is discussion about similar issue here:

some trouble shooting that might be of help to you. Hope it helps.
