OneNote Where to locate inserted documents/how to transfer tonew c
PS 4/25/2007 8:30:02 PM
I am moving OneNote to a new computer. I have pages with many embedded
documents (primarily word and excel files). I have copied these documents to
the OneNote page typically choosing. Insert a copy on the page. Sometimes a
link.
Here are my questions:

1. When you save a OneNote Notebook as a package and then open it on another
computer, where on the hard drive does it save all of the files?

2. Is there a better way to store documents saved on a OneNote page?
Possibly in a directly.

3. Is there a way to retroactively manage documents inserted on a OneNote
Page. For example, if I want to take all documents and put them into a
directory, how do I let OneNote know of this change and how do I update any
existing links to documents?

4. Is it better to insert a copy to the page or link to the file?

Inside the .ONE file. It will also store the files in its cache location
when you open them from OneNote. Do not mess with the files in the cache
directly (no deleting, moving, etc). Let OneNote handle the cache
location on its own.

What would be a better way in your opinion?

Delete the links and recreate them after you moved all the files. If the
files are embedded, then open them from OneNote, save them in the
directory you want them in, delete them from the OneNote page and insert
a link to them.

A link requires that the file is always available at that link. A file
gets inserted into your OneNote page and so will always travel with the
OneNote page, irrespective of where the page is stored.

Patrick, your answer was helpfull with an issue that I have. I have a link to
a word document that goes through revisions. When I click to open (within ON)
I get the old docuement. I could not figure out what is going on till I saw
you note on cash. Is there a way that I can make sure that the link is always
picking up the latest document (updaete the cash?)
