Have Office Pro 2002, going to install 2003. What documents from apps will I
lose or need to protect and how? Will the e-mails and folders in Outlook
Express 2002 be lost? Want to use Outlook 2003 from now on.

If you insert the Office 2003 CD, it should offer to upgrade, and as such
your 2002 components will be upgraded to 2003.
All data will be retained, but as with anything PC related a backup of data
is allways wise.
There are some things you would need to address with Outlook however. 2003
uses by default a different data file format, which doesnt have the data
file size issue that earlier versions have.

The thing I am most concerned about are the folders I have in Outlook
Express, plus the messages in the inbox. Not certain how to back them up,
have backed up the address book). How do I protect these or are they
importable into Outlook 2003? (going to 2003 due to MobileMe, iPhone,
compatibility).

Outlook Express? are you sure you were using this and not Outlook 2002
Data files are not effected by either an update or uninstalling the
application
If you used Outlook 2002 its data file is compatible with Outlook 2003 (And
2007), but not the otherway round. (ie Outlook 2002 or earlier cannot read
native format 2003/2007 outlook data files)

Yes I am using Outlook Express and not Outlook 2002. Am upgrading to Outlook
2003 which is why I am concerned about losing folders.

Well the two are completely different programs, Outlook Express is not part
of Office, so installing Office 2003 will have no impact on Outlook Express
or its data.
Now if this means you want to start using Outlook 2003 rather than Outlook
Express, you first have to configure Outlook 2003.
Then in order to export your Outllook Express mail to Outlook 2003, you
export msgs from Outlook Express.
But since Express is not part of Office, and I've never used Express, I
believe there are some things you need to do with Express first.
