RE: Problems with Off. Pro Accounting & SQL Server connecting remotely
chriswelber[ at ]yahoo.com 4/5/2007 1:06:03 AM
I am trying to get Microsoft Office Accounting Professional to work with a
Full SQl Server 2005 remotely, here is my config:

WS:
XP Pro SP2
Office 2007 & Office Account Pro 2007.

Server
Windows Server 2003
SQL Server 2005
Office 2007 & Office Account Pro 2007.

Database is mounted on the default SQL server instance. Accounting
professional using the following connection file works fine on the server:

database=cwtechnology
server=OMGURU-SERV,1433

It works fine from the server, the workstation will not connect [this port
is is open - 1433 - I have tested it with the firewall off on the server and
workstations - works locally, but not remotely - , but both ports are opened
on each firewall].

I have TCP enabled and remote connections enabled. Also An access Project
can pull data from the SQL server on the same workstation that accounting can
not.

I was thinking of trying to get business contact manager working from an SQL
2005 database and it's the same deal it works fine on the server will not
connect remotely. Is this a bug in the office connections?

Does anyone have accounting profesisonal or business contact manager working
remotely from a workstation and SQL server 2005?

I already posted this in SQL Server and so far no answers yet..

Thanks in advance for your posts.

Hi Chris,

If you have not already done so, you may also want to post this in the MS Office Accounting discussion group using the link below.

Thank You, any ideas why this also does not work with Contact Manager, are
these products not designed to be run over a network like this?

Thanks again! You guys are great!

Hi Chris,

There are a number of factors that can affect the MS Office Business Contact Manager (BCM), including whether or not you're using a
MS Exchange Server. As it can work with the Office Accounting product and that is also giving you a bit of bother, you may want to
followup on the relationship aspect of the two products and describe how you'd like to be able to work with the products in your
setup in the BCM discussion group through the link below.

Re: Problems with Off. Pro Accounting & SQL Server connecting remo

I have given up on BCM manager for the moment and getting it to work with a
SQL Server over the network, I just do not think it is really designed to
work like this.

The accounting professional still only works off the server only now it has
actually become even less functional since installing SQl 2005 Sp2. For some
strange reason it will all of sudden think it should upgrade as opposed to
open a database, then when it is uninstalled and reinstalled it will work
fine, then it will again start to think it should upgrade a database and I
need to reinstall it again. This is with no other changes on the system, it
started to see this new strange new behavior since I upgraed SQL server to
SP2. I like the program, but it seems so buggy I would have a hard time
recommending to clients. I think maybe in a version of two it will be more
stable.

Any ideas on these continuing problems would be appreciated.

Any ideas on the remote connecting to SQL servers and why this strange new
issue has started?
