OneNote (2003 or 2007). Windows XP. I have a user with a desire that I can't seem to find a nice solution for. She has a tab (page) for each student. She would like to make a couple of them (tab name) look different. We've tried different font, obviously that won't work. We've tried using flags in the name, didn't work. She tried putting a * at the front of the name, that didn't work. She needs the symbol (or whatever is found) to be at the front of the name, because some names are too long, so putting it at the end of the name may not always show.
Any ideas/suggestions? tia

2003 OR 2007 ??? This makes a huge difference.
In case 2007 (hardly ever did anything with the previous version):

The font for the tabs is fixed and cannot be changed. Therefore using f.e. "Symbol" in the title shows the respective character on the tab in the font used by the system.

Yes, tags can be used in the Title ((works great for filtering etc.), but they are not shown on the tab.

Works pretty fine for me - as well as any other char I tried (incl. "°", "^", "#", " ' " and the like).

We have both 2003 & 2007, which is why I didn't specify. If I can find a solution in one and not the other, I'll make sure she uses that version. She needs the symbol to show on the tab. When she used *, she got an error saying it was not allowed in names (that may be a 2003 issue that works in 2007). I'll work with her on using symbols. Maybe that will work.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi Lauri,
Please let me know if you found a solution to this. I think I might have an option.
Thanks

The reason that particular character doesn't work is because Windows won't let you use that character in the creation of a file name. Each notebook has to have a Windows-valid name, since there's a folder created in the "OneNote Notebooks" folder of the same name as the notebook. Tabs are the same way, because they become .one files in that folder, and so on. So as long as you can use the character as part of a file name in Windows, you should be able to use it as a name for a notebook, tab, section or section group.
