Cannot retrieve BCM contact database after uninstalling 2007 beta
Charles Bennell 1/9/2007 8:27:01 PM
I had been using MS Office 2003 including Outlook 2003 with the BCM add-in
for several months, having imported contact data from my old ACT! database.

For the past three months I used the Office 2007 Beta with BCM, including
the Beta 2 Technical Refresh.

When I initially downloaded and installed Outlook 2007 Beta, it
automatically uninstalled Outlook 2003, but my business contacts "magically"
appeared in the 2007 Outlook beta with BCM.

I decided to revert to Office 2003 with BCM, and needed to uninstall Beta
2007.

I re-installed Office 2003 from my disks, then downloaded the BCM add-in for
2003.

However, when I tried to open my BCM database, I could not find it.

I have regularly backed up (automatically auto-archived if that is the right
term), and suspect my 3000+ business contacts, histories, accounts,
opportunities, yada yada are in a folder somewhere on my hard drive, probably
in Outlook's default backup location, wherever that is.

I want to find my most recent backup (sometime in late December just before
I uninstalled BCM 2007), not a several-months-old backup.

I have also routinely backed up my HDD on an external HDD using MS OneCare.

Where should I look on my laptop (folder, filename, extension, etc.), or
what should I look for in my external HDD backup files?

Thanks to any and all for your help!

Chuck

Charles:

Look for files that end with either .MSBCM or .SBB. These are your backup
files from BCM Beta2 (depending on which version of the beta you were using).
You MAY be able to do a Restore into 2003 but I have my doubts that it will
be compatible. I'm curious why you reverted -- I'd go back to 2007. There's
a 60 days trial of the released version you can download, then on Jan. 30 buy
a license and activate it to the real thing.

HTH,
Lon

Lon,

I also reverted. I cannot locate the .msbcm but I can locate the .sbb. How
can I restore that. It will not let me.

Cheryl:

I'm going to defer to the BCM Team. The internals of the backup files
(especially differences between MSBCM and SBB) are known to them... There
are other answers on this discussion group that are close but not exactly
your situation...

Clinton: Are you out there?

Thanks,
Lon
