Can't add new page to section
Garysolo 3/28/2007 1:50:14 AM
I have a section with approximately 20 pages. For some reason, I cant add
another page. Any ideas why?

No... So let's dig into the section a little and see if we can find out what
is going on.

First, what version of OneNote are you using: 2003 or 2007?

Is your copy of OneNote activated? Is this a new installation or one you
have been using for a while?

Next, is it just that section that won't let you have more than 20 pages, or
is it all sections?

Is it possible that the section is stored somewhere that is out of space?

Hi Kathy.
I am using ON 2007. It is a registered and activated copy that I have been
using since early Feb. It is only happening with one section that has 20+
pages.
I am not sure what you mean by, "stored somewhere else". As far as I know, I
only have one backup file stored by default in my documents.

Thanks for the answer. You have eliminated most of the obvious stuff, so
let's look at the not so obvious.

What I meant by stored somewhere else was: Is the section stored on your
hard drive or on a thumbdrive (USB drive, etc.) that might be out of space?

What happens if you create a new notebook with a new section and copy the
content over to that section? I am thinking that your section is corrupted
somehow and that is what is keeping you from adding more pages to it. I know
that (in general) you can have many more pages than that in a section. I
have some sections that have over 100 pages in them.

Next up: What EXACTLY happens when you try to add the 21st page? Do you get
an error message of any kind?

(I know this seems like I am being picky with my questions. Remember that I
can't see what is happening on your computer, all I can see is what you tell
me.)

Re: Can't add new page to section

Your questions are good. The notebook is stored on my hard drive. Other
sections take more pages so it is not a capacity issue.
When I try to add a new page, I notice that the add new page button is not
active.
What is the exact process that you would use to copy the section pages into
a newly created section within the same note book?

I added a new section and successfully copied all the pages to the new
section and yes, it works in terms of adding new pages.
However, the delete button isnt working for the old section.

Glad you got the copy paste worked out and that it fixed things. My guess is
that the old section somehow got corrupted. Since the new section works, I
would close the section from within OneNote, then go to Windows Explorer and
delete the section file from there.

Kathy, I figured it out. If you see it again, heres a fix.
Go to the folder in My documents. Find the inoperable file. Right click and
go to properties. You will probably see that the read only box is checked.

Thanks for all of your help.

You know, I almost asked you that :) The only reason I didn't is because I
was thinking you had said that you could make other changes to the section
(which wouldn't necessarily be possible if it was set to read only). I
shoulda asked :)
