Hi
I have BCM running on my machine connecting to a shared database, i dont have an offline copy of the db, this works fine
i have just installed BCM on my smartphone, however when i open up Business Contacts on there, there are no contacts showing
am i correct in thinking that i need to have a offline version for me to be able to view the contacts on my smartphone??
thanks
Simon

Simon,
When you say "Smartphone" do you mean your device does or does not have a touch sreen? BCM for WM currently only works with WM Professional vs. Standard. This is what used to be called "Pocket PC." If your smartphone device does not have a touchscreen, BCM is not yet supported and this likely is be the reason you can't see your Business Contacts.

I've got the exact same problem - I cant get my BCM database to sync with my smartphone - and yes that really is a smartphone - i.e. mobile 6 standard (no touch screen) a htc s710 http://www.htc.com/product/03-product_s710.htm downloaded the add-in from here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=D9620097-E8F9-41F3-AE66-A7067DAC7ACE&displaylang=en
I do have an offline database - there is no sync options in the mobile device center (im running vista) other than the tick box to select to sync or not. Doing it via the usb cable. I get a successful sync report but the business contacts are just blank!!!!
As I said theres no options to tinker with apart from choosing to sync or not - v bizarre!
Chris at the funcave has got his working http://www.chrisrue.com/funcave/2007/06/suddenly-seeking-business-contacts-for-smart-phone.html

I didn't realize that the WM "Standard" version for BCM had just been released 6/15/07.
Go into the Windows Mobile Device Center (Vista OS only) and verify that all of your "Change content syc settings" are correct. Scroll down to "Business Contact Synchronizaton settings." (Be patient-for some reason there is a long delay of about 20 seconds for my PC to open this dialogue box). Once open, hit the radio button where it says "Synchronize all Contacts."

I've also installed the latest release of WMDC 6.1 (again recently released!)
Everything is set up fine as all my email, contacts, calendar, tasks, mobile favourites, files and onenote mobile (separate download) items sync just fine.
If I click on Business Contacts then the sync always errors. I have turned on verbose logging and the log file from the device shows this
2007-06-22 00:38:02 SyncBegin <sync xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/as/2004/core" type="scheduled"/> 2007-06-22 00:38:03 SendStatus SyncBegin, hr=0x0 2007-06-22 00:38:04 EngineBegin desktop {8AD3A4E7-61AE-40F2-BC7F-D66613568C62} 2007-06-22 00:38:04 ConnInfo Failed (0x80004005) 2007-06-22 00:38:05 RadioInf Dormant mode on [Ping] 2007-06-22 00:38:06 RadioInf Dormant mode on [Ping] 2007-06-22 00:39:07 EngineEnd hr=0x0 2007-06-22 00:39:07 SyncEnd 2007-06-22 00:39:07 AutdMode old=2, new=2, hr=0x0 2007-06-22 00:39:07 Scheduled 2007-06-22 00:44:07, handle=0x3f000050, hr=0x0 2007-06-22 00:39:07 SendStatus SyncEnd, hr=0x0
Cant find anything useful on the web to help describe this error code 0x80004005 in relation to active sync
One last odd bit is under the sync settings some items have a link beneath called sync settings where you can tweak more stuff rather than just on/off. The Business Contacts has a link but when you click it a dialog box pops up saying there is no settings for this item type and then the link dissapears. I think thats a separate issue though
Thx for trying to help though

Mike,
Yours could be some installation problem that is beyond my expertise. Someone from MS more in the know will have to interpret your log file to provide help.
Best wishes,

Hi,
Try performing a clean boot on the computer, it seems like some program is blocking the access for your smartphone to sync with the Outlook and BCM. Please refer to the following link below to perform a clean boot. ( the sme procedure applies for windows vista as well) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353/en-us
Usually it is the antivirus or the firewall programthat causes such issues. Reinstalling the antivirus would solve the issue

Not withstanding Mike's (installation ?) problem can you clarify the versions available for download (I have a WM6 Professional, touch screen device, a HTC Touch) and Office 2007 with BCM.
There is a BCMV3PPC download of 25 April 2007 which says it is for WM5 and a BCMV3SP of 15 June which says it is for WM5 & WM6 but seems directed to "smart phones" ie WM 6 Standard (non touch screen).
Which should I try ??
Regards & Thanks

Simon,
For your HTC Touch device you will need to use the 4/25/07 release. That release is for WM 5 & 6 Professional (Formerly Pocket PC) for touchscreens.

Thanks, i will install and report back if I get any problems like Mike's.
I wonder if I will be able to sync to two (or more) "contacts" folders eg to my company "Business Contacts" in BCM and also my personal "contacts" in outlook / exchange folder. That would be useful, I will let you know.

You will be able to synch these 2 separate contact folders but not to the same place on your mobile device. Your native stand alone Outlook Contacts will synch to the main phone contact app. The BCM Business Contacts will synch to a separate application under the device Programs called Business Contacts.

psionara:
You can use CompanionLink or Pocket Mirror to get both personal contacts and BCM contacts to synch into the Pocket Outlook database on your handheld. They'll do the mapping for you...
Are you an old Psion guy/girl? Cute name...

I will have a look at those, ideal to have all the contacts in the WM contacts db for phoning etc.
Yes, veteran of Psion 3, 5, 5mx and revo, loved those machines and combined with infrared link to a mobile I emailed from all around the world, also had a Dell Axim X50v but the HTC Touch with WM6 seems like the sweet spot so far as long as I can get the contacts from bcm etc sorted. I don't know which bits are WM6 and which HTC add on but the setup for phone, gprs, wifi, ... is so much easier then the dark ages.
