I just purchased office home and student and cannot get my outlook e-mail
contacts to transfer.
Is this possible. If not I have wasted my money.
I need to do a doc. in word and e-mail to another person.
I will need to do a lot of them all different.

Yes, you have wasted your money because you didn't get Outlook. IMO, Home &
Student is fatally flawed without Outlook.

I have to respectfully disagree. Outlook is not required for most home
users. Windows Mail/Live Mail works just fine for email.

I could sure use your expertise. I have Home and Student 2007 with Word and
Mail. After creating a document in Word, Send to only gives me a fax option.
The email option is "greyed out". What needs to be done so I can more
readily email.

You should still be able to send from Outlook Express or Windows Mail if it
is configured as your default mail client. But I have no experience with
sending mail from Word 2007, so perhaps someone else can help.

MS Office 2007 I believe was designed with Vista, but will work on XP,
utilizing Outlook 2007, as its email application. In Vista, Outlook Express
was replaced with Windows Mail, and then Windows Live Mail I belive it is
called. You version of MS Office 2007 (H&S) does not include a version of
Outlook.
1. If you are using XP with Outlook Express 6, you may need to upgrade OE to
Windows Live Mail. But read the installation and operational instructions
carefully, before installing.
2. Purchase and install, a stand alone copy of Outlook2007.
3. You might be able to install a stand alone copy of Outlook 2003, I do not
know if it is compatible with Office2007, you will need to check in the
Outlook newsgroups for that.

Windows Live Mail does not replace Windows Mail, exactly. It's a separate
client and you can have both on one PC, I believe. Moreover, Windows Live
Mail can be installed on Windows XP as well.

Not exactly true. You can certainly have Outlook 2003 on a PC with the rest
of the Office suite being 2007. You will lose the integration features
(like using Word as the mail editor), but it will work.

Well as the original query was how to send an email directly from Word 2007,
there's hardly any point in installing OL2003 because it still won't work.
So my statement, "Outlook 2003 is not compatible with Office 2007. They will
not work together.", is absolutely 100 percent correct, indisputable and

Another post seemed to imply that you could use Outlook 2003 with Word 2007
for email. I was dubious but let it go, as I don't use any version of
Outlook for email and consequently don't know.

Dell laptop xps with MS Vista (ouch: shoulda saved more $ and got the
Apple!). I have MS Home and Office 2007 with Word and Mail (as email). Do
you need any other info?

Whooaaa.. Rich, I am sooo close. I installed the Microsoft Add-on you so
kindly sent (Thanks, Bob Keen for also helping this idiot) Now when I hit
send, I have fax plus multiple email options. Only problem,they (EMAIL)are
all "greyed out".
Because it's not set as default? How do I follow the below commands. What
am I in: Google's gmail, MS Mail, MS Word??

Mark,
Control Panel> Internet Options> Programs Tab> Make sure Outlook Express, or
Windows Mail is set as your default Email program.
The accts should not matter.
Then Open Windows Mail, on the General tab as you state, there is a button
to set it as the default Mail Program. Do that. Now see if your email
options are not "greyed" out.

Whooaaa.. Rich, I am sooo close. I installed the Microsoft Add-on you so
kindly sent (Thanks, Bob Keen for also helping this idiot) Now when I hit
send, I have fax plus multiple email options. Only problem,they (EMAIL)are
all "greyed out".
Because it's not set as default? How do I follow the below commands. What
am I in: Google's gmail, MS Mail, MS Word??

Can't make as default mail handler. The box is - ready for this?- "greyed
out". I'm going to try to track down someone who helped me with Mail before.
I'm open to any suggestions.

Is there a phone number I can call for problems with Word? I can't get this
problem licked. I have 3 email options with the patch, but alas they are all
"greyed out".

recognized as the default email. Following your suggestions hasn't helped.

After going over this thread again, I did not see the registry fix suggested
as a remedy to your problem, this is something I have read about before,
that is in the following MS article:
"The "E-mail" command is missing or is unavailable in Excel 2007, in
PowerPoint 2007, or in Word 2007":
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918792
It is method 2, described in this article.
If that does not fix the problem, the only things I can think of is the
following:
1. First save the file to a PC folder, open Windows Mail, and send it as an
attachment with the email message.
2. Purchase a stand alone version of Outlook 2007, and use the custom
installation, and make sure all the components are installed.
3. Purchase a copy of MS Office 2003, from a reputable dealer, then after
resaving all the documents you created in 2007, to Office 97-2003 formats.
Completely uninstall MS Office 2007 from your PC, and give it to a friend,
or try to sell it to recoup some of the money you spent on it.
