I tried and tried but can not link email, documents or other things in Outlook 2007 with business contacts. When I try to create and save a link and then look it up in business contacts history page I do not see it there or anywhere. Please help if you can.

rodgerdodger:
The easiest way to link is from the Business Contacts or Accounts view. Right click on the contact, choose Create, New Linked File for Business Contact, then browse to the file on your hard drive and select it. You'll then see it in Communication History.
Is this what you've been doing? When you look in Communication History, at the top of the grid displaying the entries is a dropdown called View -- what is it set at? Does changing it make a difference?

Dear Lon, Thanks so much for your help. No work, however. I followed everything you said and associated a file to the contact, but then when I go to the history tab (which I am assuming you mean by the communication history tab) then the display goes back to the general tab area. When I hit history tab a second time I get the message "Can not display this view because an error occurred. Please close and then reopen this record to display the view" When I close and reopn I only get the same message. I had the same problem with associating things to an account. Then I read some advice on this web site saying to go somewhere, open up a form and change something which I did but couldnt change anything, but then miraculously when I went back to the account I was able to see the associated items. The person getting that advice also did the same thing and without changing anything also magically had the problem fixed. Is this program filled with ghosts and spiders?
I am really frustrated. I bought this version of Office 07 with BCM to use such an association function and it does not seem to work. I am going crazy trying to fix this. Given my results with the accounts fix, Im thinking this is not a bad installation but that I just need to find the right way of adjusting some view or form. I would really appreciate any help you could give me. Thank you so much Rodgerdodger

I'm better at advising people on usage instead of fixing the guts of the programs -- the BCM Team does a great job of that. My advice would be to BACKUP your PST file, do a backup of your BCM database, uninstall BCM first, then Office 2007, then any program that starts with SQL, and the 2007 Interop program. Reboot the PC and then reinstall Office 2007 and BCM. My hunch is that you've corrupted a form and a "nuke and pave" of Office 2007 should fix that.
Before you do that, maybe one of the BCM Team can give you easier instructions on how to salvage your current install. BCM really does work and you too can enjoy it. If there are any other error messages, please post them so the BCM guys know what they're dealing with.

Dear Lon,
Thanks so much for your help. I think you are basically right. Unless I really have a memory conflict I think the install is messed up because I tried importing the bcm database to my laptop install and the thing worked like a spring morning. However, my next job, short of taking your suggestion to contact ms support is just to unintall, However, I cant find the ms business contact manager in my control panel remove programs place and/or in my programs theres no bcm to right click to uninstall, Any suggestions how to first unintall bcm? Likewise, I dont see anyplace to just uninstall outlook 07. Do I have to remove all of office 07which took a long time to install to begin with. Thanks for any other suggestions you have on this. Much graditidue Rodger

Yes, you'll have to uninstall Office 2007 because that's where Outlook is controlled. In my Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs (Uninstall or Change a Program in Vista), I would uninstall these, in this order: [BCM Team: is this your recommendation too?]
Microsoft Office Professional 2007 Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 Microsoft Office Small Business Connectivity Components Microsoft Office 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies
Since your problem does not seem to be due to SQL Server, you could leave those entries alone. If you want to uninstall SQL, these are the entries for that, in order of uninstall:
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Microsoft SQL Server Native Client Microsoft SQL Server Setup Support Files Microsoft SQL Server VSS Writer
Please let us know if that works!
Thanks, Lon

Dear Lon,
Again I really appreciate your help so much. I spent most of last night doing the unintall thing, all of office and then bcm. I didnt get your email so I wasnt sure about the ms sql programs you mentioned. In any event after hours of unistall and reinstall, I got the same problem. I had a bad night of sleep. This am I woke up and remembered that when it came time to reinstall the bcm I did a repair, replace, fix reinstall. So before calling bcm support I finally found that with the CD disk unlike yesterday I was able to totally unintall bcm and that financial program. Then I reinstalled the bcm and that financial program from scratch. Finally it works. What a relief, because as I said there had been no problem with my laptop so I was thinking maybe its an unfixable conflict with my desktop hidden memory software, but it must have been a bad install to begin with. I share this information to get back to you, but also to help anyone else reading this in the future who ends up getting an error message when trying to display communication history, or probably any form. At least using the same database on my laptop (exporting importing it) showed me that it was not a linking problem but a display form problem. Again I cant thank you enough. What are you some type of computer wizard do gooder disguised as clark kent that helps stranded users in distress. Thanks.

Rodger:
Sort of Clark Kent, but more like Perry White... After 26+ years in the computer business, my wife knows that things are good when I shout "I love it when it works". She also know to stay away when I scream profanities... In my darker moments, I wonder how any of this stuff works. You can explain that it works ONCE using random chaos theory, but twice or repeatedly, no way! And, we write software...
Glad it's working for you...
Take care, Lon
