Templates for Unfiled Notes
"Wickiup" <BeepBeep[ at ]Roadrunner.com> 11/25/2008 6:07:23 AM
Is it possible to designate a template for Unfiled Notes before adding the
Note?
They seem to want to go to a blank untitled page at this time.

Thanks

Which type of notes is this about?
Screen-captures?

Other notes (sent to ON with the ON-printer or copied from a website)
normally get inserted as "normal" pages with the title field.

On notes inserted from a screen capture one easily open the page title
field:
from the menu "Format > Show page title"

This is when selecting the Sidenote icon in the Windows taskbar which for me
opens an Untitled Notes page.
The default page is always a plain page. Had hoped to assign a default
template that would automatically load "before" sending the data. This data
is generally copied and pasted from an outside source.

Why that?
You could go into the notebook and open a new page there.
I for one have assigned the default for this icon to open OneNote, not a
"side-note".

> The default page is always a plain page.

Yes. this is the default for side-notes.

> Had hoped to assign a default template that would automatically

No, templates can not be used with side-notes.

But there's a workaround: Placing a button "Show page title" into the
Toolbar. You could then just click the button and the sidenote will have
the page-title.

How to go:
1.) Open a new sidenote;
2.) click on the little down-arrow at the utmost right of the toolbar;
3.) select "Add or remove icon/buttons" <?> ;
4.) select "Customize";
5.) in the "Customize" Dialog select the tabbed page "Commands";
6.) in the listbox scroll down to the end, select "All commands";
7.) in the right listbox (which is in alphabetical order) scroll down
until you reach "Show page title";
8.) mark this item, hold the mouse button pressed and drag the item onto
the toolbar.

Pls note: Should terms not be 100% OK, this is due to my translation -
my ON speaks German.

P.S. Once button is in the toolbar, you toggle (page title on or off).

Well it must be pretty good German because you sure helped me. ;-)

Thanks again Rainald

German?
English <!!! > is the language in which I posted here <gbg>.

It would you be really nice would you correct my recipe and post it back
with the correct English wording.
The problem may appear again and I'd be glad to have a really correct
wording for answering (which I would save [Where? Naturally in ON <g>])

Re: Templates for Unfiled Notes
"Wickiup" <BeepBeep[ at ]Roadrunner.com> 11/26/2008 6:30:22 PM
Yes, it worked fine but I found a work around that bypasses the Unfiled
Notes thing completely.
I have created a section (with template assigned) in a notebook that I leave
selected when leaving OneNote.
When adding what would normally be an Unfiled Note I use the Windows+Shift+N
keystrokes and the sellected data can be pasted to the open and formatted
page Or choose another page in that section.

If I am researching a particular topic I leave the page open when leaving
OneNote to which I am saving the data and use the same keystrokes as the
selected page will always be open.

I'm not sure Microsoft planned it to be used this way but for this newbie it
does the job and the data is exactly where I want it to be.

Realizing I am quite new at this I am putting together a system that works
for me and allows me to be productive in a very short period of time.

The Program needs to be ramped up considerably in functionality before the
next version is published.

I might add this works even using the default Unfiled Notes with default
templates assighed and the Section and a page left open but when doing so
they must still be moved and filed.

Thanks for sharing your recipe.

As you comment that ON would have to be "ramped up", I would suggest
that you - saying that you are quite nw to ON - check out ON
thortoughly.
You might then make suggestions for being discussed in here and/or
posted in "Connect", the place for submitting
suggestions and bug reports to the developers team:
