If so then the indicator (purple dotted line) will not display. But if you hover your mouse over where it should display you'll see the Smart Tag Options button. As for getting the purple dotted line back, I have the same issue and spent some time trying to figure out how to get it to redisplay. I've uninstalled Word 2000, rebuilt the Registry, removed the entire Office installation (along with manual clean-up) and reinstalled, repaired the installation, etc. So far I've come up empty handed and gave up long ago.
