Word not merging cells with numbers and letters
"kanedmamma" <u46666[ at ]uwe> 10/3/2008 1:21:26 PM
I am merging an excel document in to word (both office 2007). Some of the
cells have data with a number and a letter such as 32R. On merging these
cells pull through as a zero. Any suggestions.

Many thanks

See http://tips.pjmsn.me.uk/t0003.htm

- the DDE option is typically the simplest way to go.

I have just done this ticked the 'confirm file conversion on open' but it has
made no difference.

I removed the data source and then relinked it and got the extra dialogue box
you described, however, on selection I get the message 'Word could not re-
establish a DDE connection to microsoft excel to complete the current task'

Unfortunately, this problem seems to be worse in Excel 2007.

If you are just trying to do the merge yourself, I suggest you select the
data in Excel and copy/paste into a Word document and use that as the data
source. You may have to paste->special if you have more columns than the
maximum number of columns in a Word table.

If you are trying to set up the merge for other people to use, things are
not so simple.

BTW, if you disconnect the data source from the Word document before you try
to re-connect to it, the connection is more likely to succeed (e.g. use
"Start Mail Merge" to set the document to being a "Normal Word Document")
first. If necessary, go through the routine of closing Word and Excel as
well before trying to make the connection.
