Disk UPgrade problem

I recently upgraded from an 80 gb drive to a 160 gb drive using the Maxtor
Maxblast 4.0 software.
98% of everything works ok so far

but:

All office 2003 products get a message about reinstalling and selecting the
REPAIR option. The application does go ahead and load after a while.

I put the original office cd in and instead of running the autoinstall, a
window opens showing the contents of the CD.

If I click on setup.exe, it takes off and copies a bunch of files, then
stops with the following message:
"The patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package
exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to
verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package" and the
install stops.

It is the original CD that I used a few years ago to install Office 2003,
however the applications have been updated.

Now what?

You need to install Office, not copy it over. Uninstall/delete what you have
and start from scratch.

OH No! What a pain. I wonder what the "...and select the REPAIR..." message
was all about. I tried opening Word and Excel and select the 'Detect and
Repair' option from the HELP drop down but after 30-45 seconds I get the
same message about the PATCH FILE.

The days of just copying programs from one hard drive to another have been
gone form many years. Your computer knows stuff - like what hard drive
Office was stored on. You moved it but the only way to tell it where it is
now is to install it. And you have to get rid of the faulty installation
first.

I know - yuck. But if you want it to work, you have to do it right.

If you click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs then find
the option for Microsoft Office 2003. Click once on the line that describes
the program (something like Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 or
whatever version you have.) Once you click on this two buttons will open in
the lower right of the line. One says Change. Click on that button.
Microsoft Office setup will start and eventually give you the option to Add
or Remove Features, Reinstall or Repair or Uninstall. Click on the button
for Reinstall or repair and follow the instructions.
