Any newer/better search tool than Lookout for Outlook 2003 SP2?
Peter 8/2/2006 1:34:01 AM
I have been using Lookout v1.2 in Outlook 2003 for awhile. I wonder whether
there is any new search email tool available from MS.

Thanks.

Outlook 2007 uses Windows Desktop Search 3.0.

Hi Sue,

So I guess Lookout is probably the one that I should be using for Outlook
2003 SP2.

Do you know of any good non-MS websites which have reviews on MS
tools/Add-ins?

Thanks,

Peter

Is that built into OL and looks only in OL or is that part of WDS that
gets installed as part of OL or Office, etc.?

WDS is a separate application. It comes preinstalled with Vista and can be downloaded for Windows XP.

Microsoft actually bought Lookout (I don't know if they bought the
company or just licenced the product, or something in between).

Soon after, they released Windows Desktop Search, which is Microsoft's
nice GUI on top of the Lookout search engine.

Some people dont like that MS's product is slower, but I can live with
it because the additional features, eg, document preview (also PDF
preview after installing the iFilter for Acrobat).

WDS 3.0 beta 2 was just released. You might find it faster.
