Computer turns off for no reason
My notebook computer will turn off with no reason. The screen and power will
just go off. When I power back up, the computer will not go on.
When I let it sit for a few minutes, it will reboot with go into windows
normally with no normal warning "windows was not shut down properely".
Their is no sign of a crash and the event log has not history of the event
at that time.

Problem while upgrading from SP1 to SP2
My VC++ application which is working well when i had Windows XP SP1 , does
not work properly after I installed Windows XP SP2.
I had to uninstall SP2 in order to make my application work....

Want to play a sound effect when a file is deleted
Is it possible to have a sound effect play when a file is deleted?
Currently a sound effect plays if the recycle bin is emptied, but I'd like

My computer is color blind
it more of a nusance than a problem. My computer displays red as black, green
as yellow, purple as blue, i think orange as yellow (hard to tell). However
its not the monitor, when i click the menu button on the monitor it displays
a menu showing all the colors. And i went to display and settings in the

Registry Key
I have a default registry key with a value of "/s". It is casing the System
32 folder to open when i login. Can I delete it? The registry is below:-

USB suddenly died, system started to freeze a lot

how to determine relationships between xp services?

I wanted to minimize the amount of services running on my Win XP Pro
SP2, by disabling as many of them as possible.

size of browser window when opens
I located this setting once and can not find it again. There is a setting
that can be checked that says the browser window is to open in a maximized
state and not where you have to click on the maxinize button on top right. I
had it checked and for awhile my browser homepage was opening in this
maximized state, tonight it went back to opening in the minimized state.

What's going on with WIndows?
Wednesday, got panic phone calls at home as some of my secretaries could do
nothing after starting and logging on with their XP Pro systems (Dells) Same
thing with different systems today. I was told Tuesday was "Update Tuesday"

Registry Trouble
I tried to delete some registry keys, using registry editors like CCleaner
which failed, as it could not delete the specified registry keys.
Then i tried to use regedit. When i click on the key i want deleted, i get
"error while opening key" and when i try to delete the key, through the right

Upgraded to genuine product key not working
My grandma had a non genuine version of windows XP SP1 on her laptop. In

Scan Disk??
I am running windows XP. I remember with windows 98 (i think) that you were
able to run a "scan disc" if you were having troubles and it would
automatically fix the problems your computer was having. Does Windows XP have

Updates KB890859 and KB931784
These updates have been installed successfully several times yet I keep
getting the update icon showing up in the notification area. When I check the
Windows folder I can see the updates have already been installed. When I shut
down the computer the update reinstalls again before shutting down. Anybody

Download Windows XP
I need to format my computer, however, my copy of XP Home edition has
a huge scratch on it and I never created a back-up copy. Is there
anywhere that I can download it, I have been trying without success as
all I can find is upgrades or updates, not the actual OS.

Deleted exe file association key, help!
deleted a key by mistake in Regedit, whilst looking for remnants of an
uninstalled prog and now no .exe files at all will open and there is no icons
for any exe file. It is saying that "This file does not have a program
associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the
Folder Options control panel." I then try to do as it says in Folder Options
and no dice!

Getting to 'safe mode'
Trying to enter safe mode - pushing f8 doesn't do it. Tried switching off
during boot sequence - next boot up goes to the select start up mode screen
but because I'm using an infrared keyboard I can't swirch to the safe mode
option and it times out - defaulting to normal. Any suggestions other than
plugging in a USB keyboard - which I don't have?...

Does anyone know anything about MSN it keeps going off line about every 5
minutes. When I go into trouble shoot and it tests the connection it says
it is fine. As it says the connection is fine it wont let me go any further.
If anyone can help me or tell me where I can get help I sure would be
gratefull. MSN help is not much help it seems I can only go so far then thats
it.

Shortcut Keys Sometimes Respond Slowly
