Disk Cleanup doesn't analyze for files to clean
I give up and need help, please. My 10 month old WinXP Pro computer's Disk
Cleanup starts instantly and shows a value of 0 for files to be cleaned in
all catagories. It runs like normal then shuts down like normal but doesn't
actually do anything. It does not analyze drives for files to clean, just
starts right up to the gui.
I've spent months trying to solve this on my own. Please don'...

Organize Favorites and Start Menu Documents
I am wondering how to arrange favorites and start menu -> documents -> my
documents. Right now, my documents are listed in alphabetical order up to a
certain date. All newer files are dumped haphazardly at the bottom. I
wanted a way to arrange the documents so they are in alphabetical order as
of today. I have the same kind of problem with Favorites. Is there are way

Windows Desktop Search tool
Hi All,
Some time ago I downloaded and installed Windows Desktop Search tool (was
installed as an Automatic Update I believe.) As far as I can tell this tool
is worthless, it seems to perform no vital functions as far as cataloging or
indexing files (seems to be idle most of the time.)
Seems like everytime I've done Maintenance on my System, this tool has had
Application errors at s...

NTbackup
I have Windows XP Home Service Pack 2.
I was installing the backup tool from "CD-ROM Drive:\VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP"
when I realized the "readme" file said that the BACKUP tool will appear to
work but won't really work if NTbackup is installed on XP Home edition when
trying to RESTORE the system from the backup created with the tool.
Is this true?
Why is the backup utility even on teh CD t...

Notebook extremely slow when connected to a network
One of our directors is experiencing performance problems on his laptop.
The machine is excruciatingly slow when it is connected to any network. Upon
inspection, I noticed that the machine is perfect when not connected. The
machine is only slow when connected. I checked that the hard disk is
defragmented, I also did a registry defrag just for good measure.
The machine is also running ...

I experience a very slow File Dialog mainly within Microsoft Applications. If
I want to open or save a file in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint in a different

(Same if I try to save attachments out of Outlook)
This happens with both, local drives as well as network drives. I experience
this on my two XP SP2 machines,...

Windows Explorer Pauses When I Perform Actions?
I have a continuing problem with my computer which I cannot seem to solve and
it's not easy to describe clearly, so please bear with me.
Whenever I use Windows Explorer, I find that if I perform any actions (for
example, right click for the menu, clicking a menu-bar item, trying to
copy/delete) it will hang for about 10-20 seconds (sometimes longer) before
actually showing the menu / pe...

IS issue with this starnge version: 6.0.2800.1106.XPSP2.050301-1526.
Hi all.
I have 2 clients running IE 6.0.2800.1106.XPSP2.050301-1526 and they are
both having problems with our application.
My question is, how would they get to this version of IE? According to this
Microsoft article, they are using the SP1 version of IE in SP2:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=kb;en-us;164539.
I want to replicate their problem in our Staging site, but cannot get ...

Sorry to be off topic, but what if anything does one do with old RAM? I'm about to install two 512MB modules which means I have to remove the two 256MB modules there now. two parts: 14 GB Basic partition (C: drive with the XP OS) and a 24 GB

However, 'Action Cancelled' on the top of the screen and not
