I go to start -> shutdown then select the option 'turn off'.
Then my computers freezes for a couple of minutes then i finally get the
'saving user profile' message.
I used filemon to trace what was happening and it seems that win xp is
read/querying some files in the recycler bin.
It generate a 12MB trace!

WinXP Pro SP2 on a Dell Pentium 3 w/ 1gb RAM

Event Viewer told me there was an error at the service PARTCNGS--it couldn't
find the path. I checked the PARTCNGS service and found it was set to manual
start.
I changed that to automa...

Windows XP very slow after defrag.
Hi. I looked at the threads and did not see this one specifically. I saw
some about slow XP, but lots suggest doing defrag, which is why I am asking
you for help.
I ran a defrag on my hard drive, and now my system is so slow to boot up,
open applications, cannot listen to music, because it cuts out, etc. Any
suggestions on fixing this? Before defrag it worked fairly fast. I am ...

How figure out what is causing lockups...
been gaming lately, and noticed that game lags at specific intervals. I took
a screenshot of the event, and have removed virtually every process running,
with the exception of those that will not allow you to, or cause instant
shutdown of comp. For info, I also stopped game, but the tempo of the lagging
stayed constant. Anyone know how to isolate the nasty culprit or how to
remove more o...

Windows Installer Patch (windows\installer folder)
My Dell Latitude has over 25GB of .msp files in C:\windows\installer hidden
folder. I believe it is so large because Windows Installer got corrupted and
later created multiple copies of installer patch files.
What is the best way to rectify this problem or to free up space on my HD?
Can I safely delete most of these files without crashing my PC?
Are they all associated with MS Office or ...

Fake email?
I just deleted a Hotmail email purportedly coming from Microsoft. It
had a "deleted" attachment, that Hotmail said contained a virus. Most
reliable ISP mail services scan their emails with some sort of virus
scanner, but it is always possible that one might slip by.
The Subject was "The last Microsoft Security Update required" and the
body alluded to the attachment which "must be run ...

However, when I shut down my computer, let it rest for a few seconds, and then start it up, all is well.
