I can't access the 'Internet Options"
All of a sudden when I try to access the Internet Options, nothing happens.
Well there is a quick little movement on the screen, but that's it. I've
tried using the Control Panel, the Run command, and the drop-down Tools menu.

Ctrl-Shift-E for Viewing Files as Text
I was using the Ctrl-Shift-E key combinastion to view any file as
text in Wordpad. But now the file opens as text in Notepad instead of
Wordpad. How do I change the default back to Wordpad?

Want to start over........
My computer is majorly screwed up. I have lost several things like all my
games on the accessories menu come up 'missing shortcut' and my computer runs
really really slow. Every time is starts i get some sort of error message. My
mom has an old computer and has a way of dumping it to start fresh........
How can I do this. i have xp home edition sp2. I just want to start over like
the day...

ntbackup "needs to close" in Windows XP
I tried to run ntbackup.exe on my Win XP SP2 system (Dell GX280). It started
in Wizard mode.
It ran normally until I got to Choose a place to save your backup. It was
defaulted to 3½ Floppy A: so I clicked Browse...
First, it wanted me to insert a diskette in drive A: but I simply clicked

XP Home Edition Add/Delete Programs
I cannot Add/Delete programs for the Control Panel/Add Delete Programs
section in XP Home Edition? I can see the programs but there is no
availibility to delete. I have never used Home Edition before, so i am
guessing there is another method?

Default power scheme changes
How can I change the power management scheme for the default user in WinXP
pro SP2 -- specifically, the scheme that is in effect when the system is
turned on before any user logs on. More specifically, with a notebook
computer, if I turn the machine on, then don't do anything with it right
away, it hibernates rather quickly. I'm using that system as a print server
so want it to stay on....

Another Windows running slow - too slow to use anymore
I have seen a lot of posts here about windows running slow, and it has
happened to me, too. It is at this point too slow to be useable. This is XP
Home/ SP2, with all current updates Takesw about 10 minutes to boot; if I
try to open a directory, a window appears, it goes blank, and about 30

When not connected remotely, computer searches for remote computer?!?!
I have a client who connects to his work computer from home via VPN and RDP.
When he is at work and he tried to right-click any file other than an exe,
it takes 1-2 minutes for the pop-up menu to open. I have followed tons of
articles and tips and finally sniffed the packets and found that the work
computer is actually looking for his home computer?!? I searched through

Perfmon - Scripting its use??
I don't know if this is possible, but what I would like to do is setup
perfmon so that I can have a list of counters for local or remote
machines in an ini file or batch file or something. Then when I start
perfmon it will load the counters I have pre-configured in the ini
file.

several standard monitors
I noticed that my hardware manager shows 4 standard monitors and one plug &
play device, allthough it is a notebook unit and I never tried to connect any
other monitor unit on it. Wd. be grateful if someone could explain, if this

Registry entry creates vulnerability
Recovering from Trojan.Wimad/Downloader infection. Man, is there a bunch of
goofy stuff in the registry, and I have no way to find out what's right or
wrong 'cept to ask for help.
Symantec's support pages led me to:

64-bit edition compatibility message
Trying to load anti-virus program and getting message "does not support 64
bit edition".
But my system is standard 32-bit processor and XP Pro with Service Pack 2
(2002 Edition Part No. X10-59871

Power Surge on USB hub port
I have posted this as general info for those who have found the same problem.
This message kept appearing on a client's P.C. The symptoms were that the USB
ports would work intermittently. The Secondary IDE channel which the optical

Computer HANGS on Safe Mode

I want to boot my Windows MCE 2005/XP Pro system into Safe Mode. It

how do i restore factory settings??
I have had my computer since September, and it was all going fine then all of
a sudden it wouldn't load. When I put my start up disk in it loaded again the
only problem now is i don't have any sound at all on my computer, I also

help me with my laptop please a spyware attack
the laptop cant hibernate by saying that ther is a file corrupt,there is a
