Unrecoverably? XP screwed up.
Hi,
First of all if this is not the right group to post this question, please
tell me.
Second, sorry for the longish post, but things are bit weird.
This morning one of my XP machines (I have 3) does not awake any more!
Symptomes: POST OK, XP logo screen with 'running bar' OK; when it is about
to display the user logon screen, the Blue Screen of Death appears and says:

msconfig start up window
When I go to msconfig and click on the start up tab, there are a couple of
things that load up that do not have a description. I unchecked them both
but now my webroot window washer is running slow motion. I am wondering what
the blank start up items could be since I cannot see the entire path of this
in the listing. Should I keep them unchecked?

Whenever I run this program it does not delete the item "Webclient/Publisher
Temporary Files" even though it says it is safe to do so. The file size

Delay opening Network Neighbourhood
Hello
I have a Gigabit Ethernet network with up to 6 computers connected.
This one (Windows XP Pro SP2) is always on; the others may be on or off
or disconnected (portables).

IE7 Steals Focus, Controls Computer....
I have an XP Home SP2 box with a 2.2ghz celeron on .5 GIG RAM and an 82GIG

Hibernation fails due to Terminal Server Mouse Driver
I have a desktop PC purchased May 13, 2003 running a continually upgraded
version of XP Pro version 5.1.2600 SP2 Build 2600. Hibernation didn't work

.exe files not working in windows xp
My grandson crashed my machine. The only programs that I can get to open at
all are internet explorer and outlook express. I have rebooted in safe mode,

backing up sound skeems
Ok. this is hypothetical here.
Let's say I make a complex sound scheme for windows XP using the sound
scheme dialogue. If I save it where can I find the file where the info is

fan failure msg
Hi, would anyone know how to get rid of this nagging message? Our cas fan
failed and it gave us the warning that it failed, we replaced it---but know,
everytime we reboot, the message comes us to strike F1 key to continue
because of "previous" fan failure. Everything works fine, including the new
fan, but this is a pain in the butt everytime we restart. Any one have any

Partitions
I have a 600 gig hard drive running windows xp sp2 and windows 2003 server.
I also have one recover partition which is marked primary. I have 4 logical
partitions. It seems I can not make any more partitions and I have close to
300 gig not being used. This set up is 2 1/2 years old and I would lose a
lot to delete any partition except for the recovery partition.
What should I do.

How exactly do I install the Remote Desktop Sever Web connection?
I want to install the remote desktop server web connection (server side).
I click into "add MS components" and then "IIS" and then "web connection" on
my Windows XP on the server.
But the installation went wrong -- it saids missing some "dll"s and asked me
to insert XP service pack 2.
But I remember when we install service pack 2, I have installed
everything...

Chkdsk output
I found an event ID 7 ("The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, has a bad block") in
the system event log.
I ran chkdsk (from the GUI, with both disk options selected - "automatically
fix file system errors" and "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors")
The Winlogon ouput reports a read error, but doesn't mention which file is
involved or whether it has attempted to reassign the bad blo...

Deleting Windows $Updates
Some time ago the issue of deleting Windows $update files was discussed. I
can't remember if I ever saw the outcome. Someone in this NG said there was
one in particular one shouldn't delete. I don't remember which it was. I'd
like to get rid of mine. I recently had a crash and had to reformat. Now I
have 74 of these files on disc, taking about almost 2 GIGS! Which one
shouldn't I delete?...

Xp will do a Disk Defragmenter

Slow computer
My computer (OS XP HOME) is painfully, and I mean painfully slow. It was
sudden and as I see it unprovoked. I have Ad-Aware and have run no less than
four full system scans on the very latest update in the last 24 hours, all to
no avail. I have tried system restore with every available restore point
(more than 30 in the last four months) and every time, it just says:

black startup
Hi, recently my XP sp2 PC has been starting up slowly and strangely.
The boot process is fine, then the screen goes black and after maybe
30 seconds, all of a sudden the logon screen appears. In other words
it seems to be blacking out the startup GUI ---
Once logged in it's fine....
Any ideas?

screen resolution
my system keeps defaulting to 4 -bit resolution. It tells me this is not
appropriate and invites me to change it to 16 bit , but often does not allow
me to do this as no options are shown in control panel display. I keep
