No hybernation
Hi
Since I have reinstalled win xp, I don't have a hibernation option in logoff
and niether is it in the control panel ->power optiond. How can I get the
hybernation option back?

something's wrong with my sound.....
sound works when i turn on/off the compputer. but when i want to play music
or watch videos in you tube.com I can't hear anything. i have limewire pro,
when i click the song it won't play. when i go in you tube, the video plays
but i can't hear anything. but when i talk in msn, to other people it makes
that sound when you're talking to other people. what's wrong with my laptop??...

Netwrok cable extender
Hi
sbs 2003 network. We have a client pc which is just too far away. Is there
a way to extend the length of the netwrok cable by using some sort of
extender hardware? Would appreciate some recommendations.

word 2007
when i had word 2003 -to protect a document i went to file-save as
-tools-general options- password to open- then type in password .
In word 2007 i cannot find how to do this other than go to review and
download rights management which says you allways have to go online!
I do not want to use this -is their another way?

Restart manager
Can someone please tell me what was before the restart manager (that works
only with vista, windows installer 4. ) ? how can i suppress the FileInUse
dialog?
the use of th property MSIRESTARTMANAGERCONTROL solved the problem on Vista,
what can i do to fix it on XP?

Remote Desktop Printing
I'm using remote desktop in XP to work on my office computer from home. I
would like to create PDFs of my reports to print at a later time and save
them on my work computer. The system administrator at work said he can't load
Acrobat on the server (the machine I attach to). I have Acrobat at home - how

Vista
i guess my first question should be 'is there a Vista newsgroup yet?'. if not
then here are my questions. i have just purchased a computer for my son with
Vista home basic installed. can this easilly be upgraded to Vista premium?
also, can i install the usual malware protection like Ad-aware and Spybot
without any adverse effects? is it necessary to install these items?

how to speed up the PC?
i use a Compaq presario P4.with a 3.06 processor....but it seems too
slow to me at least when i compare it with my friend's which is only 1
point something processor but still it is too fast as compared to mine
which constantly hangs\\WHAT should I DO??????????????

No Sound
I don't have any sound. I don't know what I could have done.
My son played one of his games on my computer, and I deleted it afterwards.
Maybe it went missing then?
No sound, no sound device, no volume control...
Can anyone help me, I don't know what to do.

Cannot view PDF files b/c it goes to Notepad
When I try to open a PDF file, it goes to my Notepad for some reason
and I cannot view it. I have Acrobat 7.0 and have reinstalled it many
times trying to get it to work. How can I direct it so that it does
not go to my Notepad and open it correctly? Please help! Thank you.

How do I enable popups?
My library has good information on books which I can only get by allowing

Verify
Thanks fr responding - but I'm afraid your response leaves me no wiser !
When you say that XP doesn't use "Verify", does that mean that verify is
always ON, or always OFF ? i.e. does XP automatically verify disk writes?
Or Not ? It seems that the default is OFF, and it's NOT possible to set ON
as the default....
Or am I wrong ? I'm confused....

All Programs?
Hi
I have recently obtained a new desktop machine which is used by all members
of my family, with separate logins/profiles. This is my first experience of
XP - up to now I'd been using Win98 SE.
I am the only user with Administrator privileges and I've been installing
the usual kinds of Software (Microsoft Office, Lavasoft, etc.) which then
appears on the All Programs tab for all users....

Windows Media Player 11
Having a few problems with computer shutting down & restarting itself.
Following instructions re the reporting to Microsoft to find out what was

New LCD Monitor, "2 D-SUB No SIGNAL"
Fitted new LCD monitor using 15-pin D-SUB cable.
This to replace a CRT monitor.
LCD running brilliantly, but, on computer shut down, at
Windows closing last gasp, a little error window showing
"2 D-SUB No Signal" appears.
Same window appears on start up.
In simple terms, what does this mean?
How can I get rid of the error message?

Adding a program for a limited user
I was recently able to add a new (old) user back to my laptop running XP and
thanks for the help.
Now I need to add a program, Outlook Express, so they can see it on their
desktop.
How do I do that?
