Windows Desktop Search returns no results
Not sure whether this is the right group...
Windows Desktop Search returns no results for ( for example) scanpst.exe.
The Search Companion returns the location almost instantly. WDS has been
installed for some months so indexing shouldn't be a problem. Why doesn't
WDS find files?
Thanks

Windows XP Folder Permissions
I have set up a directory structure for a project and set varying permissions
for different subfolders. I would like to copy this directory structure for
each new project I set up, and to have the permissions remain with the new
copy. Simply "copy/paste""dragging and dropping" or ""dragging and dropping"
the directory structure doesn't copy the permissions. Is there a way to
easily copy ...

Install Software Remote via Mapped Drive gives "Go To The Control Panel" Error
I'm hoping this is the right place to ask this. On PC1, I've got a
shared folder which contacts installation files for a program. Using
a batch file, on PC2, I map to the shared folder on PC1 (which works)
and start the install file called setup.exe. I get an error occur
then saying "Please go to the control panel to install and configure
system components". However, if while still mapped...

Quicktime reverting Vista to 16-bit Windows Vista Basic theme
So I think what caused this to happen is from my regretful attempt to
get some of the old Myst games working *Myst masterpiece edition +
Riven), and this HAD to install the old version of QT that they used
(can't remember version number). Now since then, whenever I go to do
anything involving quicktime, it set my Vista theme to Vista Basic and
as soon as I close it, it reverts back to the Aer...

Virtual memory not all used
I have 1GB RAM and the virtual memory setting is 2.5GB, but I find some
programs won't start and I get Not enough memory errors when only around
780mb of VM is used!
Since this has only just started and I have already removed some programs
from Start-up I am thinking there is a problem.
Does anyone have any idea why my full 2.5GB of VM is not used?
Thank-you
Nigel

Startup
edMy computer is slow to boot on XP Pro - SP2
As I have defragged and clean all discs, I am sure there are too many items
loading at Startup.
I believe I recall a way to display all applications loading at Startup, and
then to check a box that allows you to temporarily stop that application from
loading without making a permanent change to the registry.
Help?

I would wait if I were you

I have run all of Microsoft's OS and even a couple of Linux. Never
have any caused me as much stress as Vista.
I was lucky to actually boot successfully one time out of ten. The PC
would lock at various stages even after logging in. And that was after

Caps Lock problem
My stepdaughter has a problem on her HP laptop. She thinks she hit a weird
key combination that has now done a sort of permanent "caps lock" to ALL her
keys, not just the letters. This includes the numbers and symbols, which are
all now showing up as opposite of what they normally are (as if she were
holding the shift key down all the time). Rebooting doesn't get rid of it.
It's happenin...
