Chinese character show as ??
Greeting,
I have XP Pro SP2 and text editor TextPad installed on two computers. I
enter some Chinese characters in a TextPad on one computer, it looked good.
But when I Save it, all text became question marks. I suspect it is not saved
as ANSI code, therefore after Save, the text changed to ?????. Yet on the
other computer, it works just fine. I verified the settings on Regional and

Microsoft auto downloads downloaded .net compact framework 1.0 SP3. It will
not run. Says NCF Setup.exe is missing file RAPI.dll. I searched for the

Add Remove/Programs - program not listed
Hi:
I was installing Microsoft Project on the XP machine and the installation
was not progressing for 10 minutes or so I ended installation program.
When I try to install it again it tells me that the the program is installed
and cannot do another instance and that I should Add/Remove it from the
control panel. When I go to Add Remove programs list - it is NOT LISTED. I

Front Page 2002
Hello, I recently reinstalled Front Page on a new notebook. Everything
seems to have went well. However, a shortcut to the application was not
created on the desktop and I can't find any of the program data in the
Microsoft Front Page folder in the Program Files folder. Any suggestions?...

System Restore
Hello,
I am having a problem with a program called "Configsafe". It is a program
that does the exact same thing as Windows system restore. I need to
uninstall Configsafe. I wanted to first make sure that the program has
absolutely nothing to to do with and will in no way effect the Windows system
restore if I uninstall it.

erasing hard drive files for a clean start
I want to erase all of my files on the hard drive of my computer and
reinstall XP Pro. I can't seem to get my comp to erase any of my files using
the Windows xp Pro operating system disk. How do I do this? The reason I'm
doing this is because my comp freezes up every 15min and I have to reboot. I
had the guys at the shop put in a new hard drive (400gig). The old one was a
400 as well but...

Replace Laptop Hard Drive
I need to replace my laptop hard drive with a larger one. I am looking for
software that will allow my to image the hard drive to multiple DVDs then I
can replace the hard drive and restore the image to the new drive. Reboot
and everything is the same except I now have more free space. I tried Norton
Ghost v10.0 but the "Copy My Hard Drive" feature will not allow coping to

Need HELP on Microphone Icon
I hope someone can help me here.
My Microphone Icon is suddenly not working.
I have a Dell with WinXP that I bought a year ago.
A few days ago, my Microphone Icon decided it could no longer work
with my Logitech headset.
I retested my Logitech headset per its instructions, and it is working

mpeg playback jumpy
I am having trouble playing mpeg and mpg clips smoothly. The files are
stored locally, on the root of C, but the playback is jumpy as if buffering
issue. I loaded Cyber Link player just to verify it was not a result of
Media Player 11, but the same results surfaced. I then uninstalled the video
driver and reinstalled with the same result.
My hardware should be up to snuff... 1.7 g...

SATA management?
I have customer with a Dell Dimension 8400 and a Dell Dimension 8300. We
successfully connected a Seagate e-SATA external 350GB drive to the 8300, but
the 8400 warns "unrecognized device" when we plug the dirve in to a USB port.
If we try to boot with the drive attached, Windows halts the boot process
about 1/3 through the progress bar.
All other USB devices work properly on all the USB...

Search crashes with"Archive Open Error"
Sometimes if I don't fill in the exact name of the file an error box
comes up with the info: An error occured when opening archive: Plug-in
is not found (0x1B0003). Usually have to use task manager to close.
This is on a fresh Dell, new just purchased. What happened?...

Offline sync loses connection and user.....
cannot sync or see files. I have a user which seems to lose their sync
connection throughout the day and when this happens then cant seem to
navigate to folders and files on the network. They have to click on the sync
icon in the task tray multiple times before the connection is reestablished
and then they are able to see the network shares. Any clue as to why they
cant see their netw...

Chinese IME
Chinese input has died on me. It was always intermittent, switching back to
English without warning, but I've always been able to get it back by closing
the application and reopening. Now I can't get it at all. Using XP Pro,
Word 2003 and Excel 2003....

printing from the command prompt using print screen
I need to get an old dos application to print from the command prompt using
the "Prt Scr" button instead of sending it to the clipboard. In windows 98
and windows 2000 you can clear the PrtSc check box in the properties of the
shortcut to the dos application but this is not available in XP. Does anyone
know a way round this problem.

Taskbar problem
Hi,
I've never seen this before. A collegaue has minimised all her windows
but they don't sit on the taskbar. They just end up on the desktop.
I've had a look at the taskbar > toolbars options but nothing really
stands out.
She mentioned that she's inadvertantly pressed a key combination but
can't remember which. Any idea on how to undo this?

Desktop Background showing through wallpaper
I am seeing the colour of the desktop show around the icons on the desktop,
even though I have a wallpaper on the screen. You can still see the
wallpaper, however the colour of the desktop is showing through....

try to look at credit card online and the company is telling me that I have a

Hi!
If the offline files feature is enabled in Windows XP, Windows Explorer
puts a two-blue-arrows mark on icons of the files that are available
offline. The mark is placed in the left bottom corner of the icon.
(The two-blue-arrows overlay is contained in
"%SystemRoot%\system32\cscui.dll".)

clean installation
Just did a clean installation of xp home (3 times) and encountered a
'problem' along the way at the same spot. During the installation process
where we are suppose to enter a name/cd key, there is a flury of blinking and
it will stop when I click the mouse to enter the cd key or user name. In a

Destop.ini Opens with Each Reboot?
I'm visiting my father and naturally I've been enlisted to straighten out his
machine. This one has me stumped. Every time he reboots, a text file called
desktop.ini opens with Notepad. Here's the content of the file:
